Psikologjia muzikore, ose psikologjia e muzikës, mund të përkufizohet si një degë e psikologjisë dhe e muzikologjisë. Ajo synon të shpjegojë dhe kuptojë sjelljen dhe përvojën muzikore, duke përfshirë këtu edhe proceset përmes të cilave muzika perceptohet, krijohet, u përgjigjet dhe përfshihet në jetën e përditshme. [1] Muzikologjia është studimi i muzikës. ("Musicology" Britannic Academic, 2013). Ekziston një larmi studimesh të cilat përfshijnë muzikën; ndikimi i adoleshencës, kultura, psikologjia personale, etj. (Schafer, 2013) [2] Psikologjia moderne e muzikës është kryesisht empirike ; njohuritë e saj tentojnë të përparojnë në bazë të interpretimeve të të dhënave të mbledhura nga vëzhgimi sistematik dhe ndërveprimi me pjesëmarrësit njerëzorë. Psikologjia muzikore është një fushë kërkimore me rëndësi praktike për shumë fusha, përfshirë performancën muzikore, kompozimin, edukimin, kritikën dhe terapinë, ashtu si edhe hetimet e qëndrimit njerëzor, aftësive, performancës, inteligjencës, krijimtarisë dhe sjelljes shoqërore. (Natividad, 1996). Psikologjia muzikore mund të hedhë dritë mbi aspektet jo psikologjike të muzikologjisë dhe praktikës muzikore. Për shembull, ajo kontribuon në teorinë e muzikës përmes hetimeve të perceptimit dhe modelimit kompjuterik të strukturave muzikore si melodia, harmonia, tonaliteti, ritmi, metrika dhe forma . Hulumtimet në historinë e muzikës mund të përfitojnë nga studimi sistematik i historisë së sintaksës muzikore, ose nga analizat psikologjike të kompozitorëve dhe kompozimeve në lidhje me përgjigjet perceptuese, afektive dhe shoqërore ndaj muzikës së tyre.
