L'escut és voltat dues palmes d'argent passades en sautor que porten una cinta d'argent amb el lema nacional en francès: UN PEUPLE – UN BUT – UNE FOI ('Un poble – Una meta – Una fe'). Acoblat darrere l'escut, de la punta en penja l'Orde Nacional del Lleó, la màxima condecoració del Senegal. Per timbre, una estrella de cinc puntes de sinople.

Italiano: Partito: al primo di rosso al leone d'oro; al secondo d'oro al baobab al naturale accompagnato in punta da una fascia ondata di verde (che rappresenta il fiume Senegal). Lo scudo circondato da due rami di palma d'argento passate in decusse e che portano una lista d'argento con il motto nazionale in francese: UN PEUPLE • UN BUT • UNE FOI. Accollato alla punta dello scudo un nastro riportante l'Ordine nazionale del Leone, massima onorificenza del Senegal. Lo scudo timbrato da una stella di verde.
