Today, Sarajevo's population is not known clearly and is based on estimates contributed by the [[United Nations Statistics Division]] and the Federal Office of Statistics of the [[Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina]], among other national and international non-profit organizations.

Pas viteve të luftës, ekonomia e Sarajevës ka qenë subjekt në rindërtim dhe rehabilitim programeve. Ndër monumentet e tjera ekonomike, të Bankës Qendrore të Bosnje-Hercegovinës u hap në Sarajevë në vitin 1997 dhe Bursa e Sarajevës filloi tregtare në 2002. Prodhimit të mëdha të qytetit, administratën, dhe baza e turizmit, e kombinuar me një treg të madh informal, e bën atë një nga rajonet më të fortë ekonomike të Bosnjës dhe Hercegovinës.
Ndërsa Sarajeva ka një bazë të madhe industriale gjatë periudhës komuniste, vetëm disa biznese të para-ekzistuese janë përshtatur me sukses në ekonominë e tregut.
