Natë para UEFA Cup Final 1999, një kasetë video u lirua i cili tregoi Cannavaro duke u injektuar me një substancë . Substanca është gjetur të jetë neoton ( phosphocreatine ) , e cila është përdorur në kardiokirurgji për të mbrojtur zemrën gjatë periudhave të Mungesa e oksigjenit dhe stresi . Kjo nuk është në listën e substancave të ndaluara . Kjo kimike është , në partneritet me triphosphate adenosine ( ATP) , themelore për aftësinë e trupit për të prodhuar energji muskulare . Phosphocreatine formohet natyrshëm brenda trupit , me rreth 95 % te te perberjes ruhet brenda qelizave të muskujve . Përafërsisht 5 oz ( 120 g ) të phosphocreatine është e pranishme në trupin e një të rrituri të shëndetshme , për klasifikimin e kompleksit nuk luhatet në një masë të konsiderueshme. Kur dyqane phosphocreatine bëhet ulur , trupi replenishes furnizimin e vet nga një nga dy burime . Burimi i parë është aminoacidet, blloqet muskujve - dhe - ndërtimin e indeve të pranishme në të gjitha proteinat . Mëlçisë prodhon phosphocreatine nga amino acidet . Trupi gjithashtu merr kreatinë diete kryesisht nëpërmjet konsumit të mishit . [ 20 ] Asnjë veprim nuk është marrë kurrë në lidhje me këtë incident .
