'''8 Shtatori''' u shpall Dita Ndërkombëtare e Shkrim-Leximit nga [[UNESCO]] më 26 Tetor të vitit 1966, në sesionin e 14-të të Konferencës së Përgjithshme të UNESCO-s. Ajo u festua për herë të parë në vitin 1967. Qëllimi i saj është që të nxjerrë në pah rëndësinë e shkrim-leximit për individët, komunitetet dhe shoqëritë.
