Midis 1972 dhe 1993 ai studioi [[histori osmane]] në [[Universiteti i Çikagos|University of Chicago]]. Që nga 1994 ai ka dhënë mësim në [[Universiteti Bilkent|Universitetin UniversityBilkent]], ku themeloi edhe departamentin e historisë.

Ai përfundoi doktoraturën e tij në 1943 në të njëjtën department. Ai e kompletoi tezen e etij te PhD me çështjen Bullgare në Perandorinë e vonë Osmane.

Ai hyri në të njëjtën shkollë si asistent, më pas ai u bë profesor asistent në 1946 anddhe afterpas hiskthimit returntë fromtij lecturingnga inligjërata thenë [[UniversityUniversiteti ofi Londrës|Universitetin e LondonLondrës]] forpër anjë whilekohë, heai becameu abë professorprofesor innë thetë samenjëjtin departmentdepartament innë vitin 1952. HeAi lecturedligjëroi innë variousuniversitete universitiestë inndryshme thetë UnitedShteteve Statestë asBashkuara asi guestprofesor professori ftuar. InNë vitin 1972, heai u wasftua invitednga byUniversiteti thei [[University of ChicagoÇikago]]s. Ndërmjet 1972 dhe 1993 ai dha mesim [[histori osmane]] në University of Chicago. Në 1994, heai returnedu tokthye në [[Turkey|Turqi]] anddhe foundedthemeloi historydepartamentin departmente athistorisë në [[Bilkent University]] whereku hevazhdon istë stilljapë teachingmësim.
