Ngjarja fillon në qytetin e Gothamit,ku Jokeri , një kriminel është duke organizuar vjedhjen në një bankë , duke organizuar nje skuader te cilën pasi ia merr paratë i vret nje e nga nje të gjithë. Edhe pse në dukje i qetë, qyteti është në prag të kaosit nga bandat e ndryshme kriminale që qarkullojne gati të pashqetësuara. Që pas terheqjes seë Batmanit , kanë dalë shumë njerëz që e kopjojnë atë, herë pas here edhe për interesa jo njerëzore duke prishur kështu imazhin e heroit të qytetit. Duke pare te gjithe kete zallamahi Batmani i vertete shfaqet duke bashkepunuar me prokurorin Harvie Dent. Ne fakt njeriut-lakuriq nate i vjen per shtat qe Harvie te shihet si heroi ne menyre qe ai te kete mundesi te terhiqet nga ky pozicion dhe te afrohet serish me Rachel Dawes - sigurisht ne kepucët e Bruce Wayne. Por Dawes ka filluar nje histori dashurie me Dent, dhe është e paqartë në zgjedhjen e të ardhmes së saj.
Pas vjedhjes se 68 milion dollareve ne bankë nga llogarite e krimineleve, llogaritari i mafias, kinezi Lau i lajmëron ata se parate duhet ti kalojne ne nje llogari sekrete qe do ta dijë vetem ai, por Jokeri hyn ne dhomë me një plan te ri.
