Klaudiani

Klaudiani (Latin: Claudius Claudianus, i njohur në anglisht si Claudian, lindur rreth vitit 370 - rr. 404), ishte një poet latin i lidhur me oborrin e perandorit romak Honorius në Mediolanum (Milano), dhe në veçanti me gjeneralin Stilicho. [1] Vepra e tij, e shkruar pothuajse tërësisht në hekzametra ose çifteli elegjiak, ndahet në tre kategori kryesore: poema për Honorin, poema për Stilikon dhe epika mitologjike. [2]

Klaudiani duke qenë se ishte nën ndikimin e shkollës aleksandrine, shkroi një numër të madh idilesh, epigramesh e poemash me përmbajtje mitologjike. Poezitë e tij me tematikë historike, përmbajnë një material të pasur historik dhe japin me saktësi dhe besnikëri të madhe të gjitha ngjarjet e kohës. Disa nga poemat e tij formojnë një burim të rëndësishëm për historinë e Ilirëve në vitet 395-404 dhe veçanërisht për pasojat e dyndjeve të fiseve barbare në Iliri.

Klaudiani ka lindur në Aleksandri ndërsa mbërriti në Romë në vitin 394 dhe la shenjën e tij si poet oborrortar me një eulogji të dy patronëve të tij të rinj, Probinus dhe Olybrius, konsuj të vitit 395. [3] Ai shkroi një numër panegjirikësh në konsullatën e klientëve të tij, poezi lavdëruese për bëmat e Stilikos dhe shpifje drejtuar rivalëve të Stilikos në oborrin lindor të Arkadius.

Dihet pak për jetën e tij personale, por duket se ai ishte një pagan i bindur: Agustini i referohet atij si 'kundërshtari i emrit të Krishtit' (Civitas Dei, V, 26), dhe Paul Orosius e përshkruan atë si një 'pagan kokëfortë ' (paganus pervicassimus) në veprën e tij me titull Adversus paganos historiarum libri septem (VII, 55).

Ai u shpërblye mirë për angazhimin e tij politik. Në fakt, atij iu dha grada vir illustris. Senati Romak e nderoi atë me një statujë në Forumin Romak në vitin 400. [4] Gruaja e Stilikos, Serena, i siguroi atij një grua të pasur. [5]

Meqenëse asnjë nga poemat e Klaudianit nuk regjistron arritjet e Stilikos pas vitit 404, studiuesit supozojnë se Klaudiani vdiq në atë vit. Veprat e tij nuk japin një rrëfim për plaçkitjen e Romës, ndërsa shkrimet e Olympiodorit të Tebës janë redaktuar dhe bërë të njohura vetëm në disa fragmente, që nisin nga vdekja e Stilikos. [6]
