Natyralizmi fetar ndërthur një botëkuptim natyralist me idealet, perceptimet, traditat dhe vlerat që janë shoqëruar tradicionalisht në shumë fe ose institucione fetare. "Natyralizmi fetar është një perspektivë që gjen kuptimin fetar në botën natyrore dhe hedh poshtë nocionin e një mbretërie të mbinatyrshme". [1] Termi "fetar" në këtë kontekst interpretohet në terma të përgjithshëm, i ndarë nga traditat, zakonet ose besimet e ndonjë prej feve të caktuuara. [2]

Fushat e shqyrtimit përfshijnë përpjekjet për të kuptuar botën natyrore dhe implikimet shpirtërore dhe morale të pikëpamjeve natyraliste. [3] Kuptimi bazohet në njohuritë e marra përmes hetimit shkencor, si dhe njohuritë nga shkencat humane dhe artet. [4] Natyralistët fetarë përdorin këto këndvështrime kur u përgjigjen sfidave personale dhe sociale (p.sh. gjetja e qëllimit, kërkimi i drejtësisë, pajtimi me vdekshmërinë) edhe në lidhje me botën natyrore.

Të gjitha format e natyralizmit fetar, duke qenë natyraliste në bindjet e tyre themelore, pohojnë se bota natyrore është qendra e përvojave dhe kuptimeve tona më domethënëse. Si pasojë, Natyra shikohet si vlera përfundimtare në vlerësimin e qenies së një personaliteti. Pavarësisht se kanë ndjekur rrugë të ndryshme kulturore dhe individuale, natyralistët fetarë pohojnë nevojën njerëzore për kuptim dhe vlerë në jetën e tyre. Ato tërheqin dy bindje themelore në ato kërkime: ndjenjën e pasurisë së natyrës, kompleksitetit spektakular dhe pjellorisë, si dhe njohjen e kuptimin se Natyra është sfera e vetme në të cilën njerëzit jetojnë jetën e tyre. [5] Njerëzit konsiderohen të ndërlidhur me pjesë të ndryshme të Natyrës.

Shkenca është një komponent themelor, i domosdoshëm i paradigmës së natyralizmit fetar. Ai mbështetet në njohuritë themelore shkencore për të forcuar perspektivat fetare dhe shpirtërore. Shkenca është mjeti kryesor interpretues për natyralizmin fetar sepse metodat shkencore sigurojnë kuptimin më të besueshëm të Natyrës dhe botës, përfshirë këtu edhe natyrën njerëzore.
