== Karriera ==
Hypatia ishte një Neoplatoniste, por, ashtu si babai i saj, ajo hodhi poshtë mësimet e Iamblichus dhe përkundrazi përqafoi Neoplatonizmin origjinal të formuluar nga Plotinus. Shkolla Alexandrian ishte e njohur në atë kohë për filozofinë e saj, dhe Aleksandria u konsiderua si e dyta pas Athinës si kryeqyteti filozofik i botës Greko-Romake. Hypatia mësonte studentë nga e gjithë Mesdheu. Sipas Damaskit, ajo ligjëroi për shkrimet e Platonit dhe Aristotelit. Ai gjithashtu shprehet se ajo eci nëpër Aleksandri në një tribun, një lloj manteli i lidhur me filozofët, duke dhënë leksione publike të improvizuara.
