Kleriku zakonisht është një udhëheqës zyrtarë në kuadër të institucionit fetar. Rolet dhe funksionet e tij ndryshojnë varësisht nga tradita fetare, por zakonisht përfshijnë udhëheqjen e ritualeve specifike dhe mësimin e doktrinave dhe praktikave të fesë së tyre. Kleri zakonisht përkujdeset për aspektet rituale të jetës fetare, ligjëron dhe ndihmon në përhapjen e doktrinës fetare.
