Slavoj Žižek (lindur më 21 Mars 1949) është një filozof slloven, aktualisht studiues në Departamentin e Filozofisë të Universitetit të Ljubljanës, dhe drejtor ndërkombëtar i Institutit Birkbeck për Shkencat Humane të Universitetit të Londrës. [1] Ai është gjithashtu Studiues i Famshëm Global në Universitetin Kyung Hee në Seul dhe profesor i shquar global i gjermanishtes në Universitetin e New Yorkut. Ai merret me fusha të tila si filozofia kontinentale, teoria politike, studimet kulturore, psikoanalizën, kritikën e filmit, marksizmin, hegelianizmin dhe teologjinë .

Në vitin 1989 Žižek botoi tekstin e tij të parë në gjuhën angleze, The Sublime Object of Ideology, në të cilin u largua nga teoria tradicionale marksiste për të zhvilluar një konceptim materialist të ideologjisë që tërhiqej shumë nga psikanaliza Lacaniane dhe idealizmi Hegelian. [2] [3] vepra e tij teorike u bë gjithnjë e më eklektike dhe politike në vitet 1990, duke u marrë shpesh me analizën kritike të formave të ndryshme të kulturës popullore dhe duke e bërë atë një figurë popullore të së majtës akademike. [4]

Stili idiosinkratik i Žižek-ut, veprat akademike popullore, botimet e shpeshta të revistave dhe asimilimi kritik i kulturës së lartë dhe të ulët e kanë ngritur atë një autoritet me ndikim ndërkombëtar në polemikë, kritikë dhe një audiencë të konsiderueshme jashtë akademisë. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] Në vitin 2012, Politika e Jashtme e renditi Žižekun në listën e saj të Top 100 Mendimtarëve Global, duke e quajtur atë "një filozof të famshëm" [10] ndërsa diku tjetër ai është quajtur " Elvis i teorisë kulturore" [11] dhe "filozofi më i rrezikshëm në Perëndim”. [12] Një film dokumentar i vitit 2005 me titull Žižek! vepra kronike e Žižekut. Një ditar, Revista Ndërkombëtare e Studimeve Žižek, u themelua nga profesorët David J. Gunkel dhe Paul A. Taylor për t'u angazhuar me veprën e tij. [13] [14]
