Lindsay Lohan është fëmija e parë të Dina (analiste dhe menegjere) dhe Michael Lohan dhe u rrit bashkë me vëllezërit dhe motrat të vetë Michael, Aliana dhe Dakota në New York. Ajo ka rrënjë iraniane dhe italiane. Me 3 vjet filloi Lindsay me bë klipa për reklama, ku pati paraqitje në 60 klipa reklame, ndër të tjerë për Pizza Hut dhe Ford.

Me 17 ishte Lindsay Lohan në Cover (sqt. Mbulesa) të Vanity Fair. Lohan e bëri debutin në filma kinema në vitin 1998, ku ajo i luajti binjakët Hallie Parker dhe Annie James në prodhimin e Disney The Parent Trap. Komedia bazon në librin fëmijësh Das doppelte Lottchen të shkrimtarit gjerman Erich Kästner dhe ishte një remake të filmit e Disney The Parent Trap (1961), ku Hayley Mills binjakët i luajti. Tjerë paraqitje si aktore filmit pati Lohan në filmat televiziv Life Size (2000) dhe Get a Clue (2003), që në Disney Channel u transmetua.
