Shtatë artet e lira (lat. septem artes liberales) është term i cili paraqet bazën e ndarjes së lëndëve mësimore në shkollat mesjetare. Shtatë artet e lira për herë të parë i përmendi shkrimtari mesjetar Marcian Kapella (Martianus Capella, shek. V), në veprën "On the Marriage of Philology and Mercury". Për përmbajtjen dhe karakterin e shtatë arteve të lira në mesjetën e hershme dëshmon edhe Raban Mauri (Rabanus Maurus, 776 - 856). Më vonë u bë ndarja e shtatë arteve të lira në trivium dhe kuadrivium:[1] [2] [3]
