Hello

Redakto

Hello Termininja and welcome in Albanian Wikipedia. I have seen some of your contributions in bgwiki and I am pretty sure that your experience would be very helpful in sqwiki. I just wanted to ask you, what is the situation of taxonomy related articles in bgwiki (i.d. how many, what level of expansion etc)? If you are interested to automatically import taxonomy related articles in bgwiki you may contact me. I have experimented a couple of times this in sqwiki (take a look at WP:IAA). The very fist thing to do, is to create a database. But this is not simple, you have to find what the sources or Wikipedia has the information best organised in infoboxes. I think that itwiki is very good at this point. Next think, you have to translate the database in your language. It would save time and efforts to both wikis (sq and bg), if we create a common database, just like this one with over 25K articles, and than translate in respective languages. We should learn from the experience of each other. If you have already experimented this, or if you have created a database please be kind to share it with us. Good luck!-- Euriditi  29 mars 2013 21:16 (CET)Reply

Hello. I'm not sure how many articles about taxonomy we have, but I think the situation is not very good. I'm really intrested about this method. I saw that in the other wikis they use some bot to create automaticaly new articles. But I've never work with bot, so I need to read little about this. Can you give me some help pages (in english) about how this work, or some practical and simpler exampe to see how it work. After that I'll can help more with sure... Is this database everything which we need?... I have some experience with taxonomy. I created many taxo-classifications (list1, list2) in our wiki, but as you will see there are too many red links.--Termininja (diskutimet) 29 mars 2013 23:10 (CET)Reply
There are different platforms or frameworks that are used to run wikibots. A simple one is pywikipedia bot and the best place to start with is here. You might also find my tutorial useful, it is still understandable if you translate it in English. I must mention that it's been two years now that this platform is in dormant state, they're not publishing new scripts. Another platform that is gaining more popularity is DotNetWiki. I haven't experimented the import of articles with the second one, so I know a little about it.
OK, the situation in bgwiki is far better than in sqwiki. I might assume that you have ~4500 articles about taxonomy while we have ~200 articles. The living species that are classified till now are over 1.3 million. In enwiki, itwiki, frwiki the number of articles about species vary form 30.000 to 40.000. In svwiki and nlwiki the number of taxonomy related articles is more than 100.000. They have used bots to automatically import articles. A natural scientist User:Lsj from Sweden is doing a great contribution and I think that the best solution is to ask him to import the articles in our wikis or if he accepts to share the database with us, we will use our bots to import the articles. But before asking him, we have to learn how to run the bots that use dotnet wiki bot framework (because Lsjbot uses DNW platform). -- Euriditi  30 mars 2013 19:34 (CET)Reply
Now I have too many unknowns, so I think to start from the 1st both links step by step. Give me some time to study how this work. Thanks. --Termininja (diskutimet) 31 mars 2013 13:31 (CEST)Reply
The best advice that I can give is to practice, you shouldn't fear. Everything that does a robot could be reverted. Good luck.-- Euriditi  31 mars 2013 13:42 (CEST)Reply
I know. Thank you :) --Termininja (diskutimet) 2 prill 2013 17:52 (CEST)Reply
